Countdown for what?

Incredible Countdown Clock by ATIS547.

So on a quarterly calendar paper posted above a desk I frequently use at work are a number of colorful Xs (my co-worker’s), many of which loudly override my measly pencil or penned in Xs underneath. For each week there is a different color X-ing off the days. And we’re now into the 2nd cycle of colors (repeating the colors of the first cycle). The calendar colors conversations with my co-worker have been fun…but…the end of the quarter is drawing nigh. And this could very well be my last quarter at this workplace. I didn’t commit to returning next quarter, and, unless there are changes, could very well not come back. Hopefully I’ll be offered something up further up north if that’s in accordance with God’s will.

So…once the Xs ‘x’ off this month, will there really be a sense of joy? When at work, most moments I am not actively thinking of my work as a ministry through which I might be used by God. I should live more in the here-and-now.

After I’m done working there, then, I’ll only have the next challenges to face, and the next, and the next…and through each stage I’ll still be stuck with several of the same challenges I’ve had in the previous stages. It’s not like all problems are replaced with new ones. Some get recycled and recycled…and so the cycle goes.

So really. What’s the point of counting down. All that matters is the count up…counting up to heaven with…what counts. Wait I can’t count anymore…
